Relationships of a man and a woman in Ukraine often resemble of a tragicomedy. They are a kind of reflection of the society. The country located mentally at the borders of Europe and Asia, the West and the East, a Russian and Soviet past and not very good determined future demonstrates a complicity of a financial problem in family relations.

Ladies in Ukraine have a quite interesting attitude towards money. It’s an interesting mix of an eastern and western components, social conventionalism and innovative modern. Men usually acknowledge that a Ukrainian woman demands many investments. However, she is not very happy about that. Ukrainian girls usually take a regular financial support for granted and appeal to old and classical norms of behavior. All this is mixed with a spirit of European equality and Asian financial dependence in a remarkable manner.

Brides from Ukraine sometimes use ideological clichés like ‘he is a man and he must do it.’ They talk about etiquette rules, but often abuse them. They like talking about constitutional equality of sexes, but in some cases prefer not using rules. Sometimes one can grow suspicious about their striving to get used of advantages of gender policy with some elements of a material security more popular in the East. The principle of equality for slavic girls nowadays has not just an absolute meaning, but a selective one.

The majority of Ukrainian ladies are not fancy women. They also work, but need a financial support. Their incomes are for various reasons not enough for leading a decent life.
A necessity to financially support girls is also partially explained by the fact that an average salary of women in Ukraine is 30-35% less than that of men. Incomes of a man often play both supplement and compensational role. While apportioning a part of his salary to a woman, a man fixes a gender injustice of job compensation.
